The Greatest
Barrier Reef.
The most colourful, vibrant, and biodiverse metropolis, the Great Barrier Reef is home to some 2900 coral reefs, 1625 species of fish, 3000 species of starfish and sea urchins, to name a few. The sustainability of this natural wonder is becoming a concern as climate change and human activity are slowly forcing the reef on the edge of extinction as coral numbers are beginning to plummet.

Overview
This project was for my Information Illustration class, where we had to illustrate an environment that is "teeming with life." I had never illustrated anything underwater before, so I sought this opportunity to create my most favourite illustration (and everybody else's)
to date. Its so full of colour, I truly see myself in this piece.

The Reef
During this project, I emphasized the biodiversity among the creatures of this reef. Featured here are over 50 species of reef life including a giant clam, the weedy sea dragon, clown fish, an octopus, a sea turtle, stingrays, whales, dolphins, the banded sea krait and whole lot more. Another point of focus was illustrating an ecosystem that portrayed biosynthetic life, with creatures hiding in their natural habitats, and living off one another in this busy, overcrowded world. Examples of these findings include clownfish popping out of their anemone, cardinal fish protecting their territory in the staghorn coral at the bottom right-hand side of the foreground, and in the mid ground, the coral bleaching phenominon on the coral beds that occur due to the crown of thorns starfish that destroy the coral they touch.
